Short bio:

Sieglinde Spath currently works as the Head of the English section at the Language Center of the University of Jena. She offers various courses including English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Law Students, and more general skills-based English courses. In the past, Ms Spath has been actively involved in research, teaching, and several projects at the department of English and American Studies (Chair for English Didactics), the Center for Teacher Training and Educational Research as well as the International Office. In one of her recent projects "Internationalization of Teacher Education – a Practical Semester Abroad" she implemented and evaluated a portfolio-based coaching concept for the professional development of future teachers regarding their intercultural sensitivity and reflective competence. Preceding her career at Jena University she was employed at different secondary schools teaching German, English, Ethics and Philosophy. International work experience includes working as a student exchange advisor in Melbourne, Australia. Her current research interests focus on:

  • Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
  • Cross-curricular and interdisciplinary educational goals
  • Audio-visual literacy in digital and hybrid learning formats
  • Conceptualization of intercultural and reflective competence
  • Formative assessment and evaluation in teacher education
