A demand for experts familiar with energy law, its economic and ecological determinants, as well as its scientific prerequisites has been apparent in German law firms and regional and supra-regional energy supply companies since even before the energy transition. Against this backdrop, the Institute for Energy Industry Law at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena - the Centre of Excellence for Technology, Economics, Law initiated the certificate program in Energy Law in summer semester 2015 to complement the usual law program at the Faculty of Law.

The concept of the certificate program offered by the Faculty of Law was developed by the Institute of Energy Industry Law in close cooperation with the Foundation for Environmental Energy LawExternal link, which is also responsible for the content and structure of the courses offered on environmental energy law and renewable energy law.

Students in the field of law as well as in the other faculties of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Faculty of Chemical and Geosciences, Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Economics) engaged in the Institute of Energy Law are thus given the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of energy law and to prove this knowledge by completing this certificate.

The curriculum, which is designed for a period of four to six semesters, focuses on energy industry law and the technical, economic and scientific fundamentals of the energy industry.
